12 February 2022 marked the 4th year anniversary of Mandala Majapahit Hasanuddin University (ManMa Unhas). This center of Majapahit research is a collaboration between YAD and the Department of Archaeology, Faculty of Humanities, Hasanuddin University, and was inaugurated directly by Hashim Djojohadikusumo and witnessed by the Rector of Hasanuddin University, Prof. Dr. Dwia Aries Tina Pulubuhu, On 12 February 2018 at FIS V Building, FIB Unhas. To commemorate the 4th Anniversary, ManMa Unhas organized a seminar under the theme “Tracing the Trails of Majapahit in the Land of Mandar”, inviting Budianto Hakim from South Sulawesi Archaeology Center and Muhammad Ridwan Alimuddin, a prominent Cultural and Environmental activist from West Sulawesi, as speakers.
In our next story, we are looking at the main threat for biodiversity in Sumatra such as forest destruction, loss of habitat, illegal trade, and human-wildlife conflicts. The importance of conserving biodiversity was the motive behind “National Seminar: The Future of Sumatran Tigers”, where YAD through Dharmasraya Sumatran Tiger Rehabilitation Center (PR-HSD ARSARI) shared experience in rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing Sumatran Tigers for the past 7 years in the segment “Conflict Management and Private Sector Involvement” where Dr. Catrini Pratihari Kubontubuh, the Executive Director of YAD, was invited as a speaker in the second session of the seminar.
Last but not least, are you interested in trying out “The Real Treehouse”? Our colleagues at PSO-ARSARI are sharing with us unique and interesting facts about orangutans and their nests. And it turns out, that there are many types of nests depending on the trees, and while in a glance it looks like a pile of branches and twigs, orangutan nests are sturdy enough to withstand up to 100 kilograms of weight.
