Salam Lestari
The 21st edition of Warta YAD is back to bring you the latest update about YAD activities and programs in both the environmental and cultural conservation. In the field of environment, we covered PR-HSD ARSARI veterinary medical team who recently examined the reproductive health status of Sumatran elephants upon request from the Riau BKSDA. Still from Riau, there is also story from another YAD field unit in Riau, the PKR-ARSARI, about their experience of releasing endangered animals back to their habitat.
From East Kalimantan, PSO-ARSARI told an equally engaging piece about their preparation of the Tanjung Buaya Protected Animal Facility, a site planned for orangutan translocation which will be carried out in June 2023. Still on the topic of environment, our West Sumatra teams shared a rather melancholic story of many conflicts between tigers and humans, where AK-PSD together with PR-HSD ARSARI raised important and very real issue of conflict mitigation in South Solok.
Another interesting article is the cultural activities in commemorating World Heritage Day, which falls on April 18 every year. This event is particularly important to remind each other of the importance of conservation in protecting our heritage, and this year, with young speakers taking the helm and spearheading the event.
This edition also brought us news about capacity building activity carried out by Dr. Wiratno, M. The former Director General of KSDAE KLHK, he is currently the Board of Expert for the Environment in YAD and always strives to encourage young people at YAD to carry out environmental conservation programs with passion. The title of his session is “Innovation Towards Learning Organization”.
