There are times when old photos of a family
are not only valuable to the said family. They can be very valuable to a nation
because they contain invaluable historical data. Such are the photos of the
ancestors of Hashim Djojohadikusumo, the chairman of ARSARI Djojohadikusumo
Foundation.
Some of the photos in the album are very old, fragile, and decaying away. They
record images of various historical figures of the Indonesian nation. Apart
from family members such as RM Margono Djojohadikusumo and Prof. Sumitro
Djojohadikusumo, there are also many figures from the Indonesian independence
movement like Budi Utomo and others. Such is the importance of this old and
historic album, so much that YAD took the initiative to call upon professional
assistance in order to conserve these photos.
The conservator is Dina S. from the collection care and conservation team at
the National Museum. In 2018, she started her career as Main Conservator at the
Museum Bank Indonesia, and handled the conservation of materials from paper,
photos, metals and others.
So far, almost all the photos in the two main albums have been successfully
conserved.
