“Education is the key to building a nation and ensuring its progress” – HSD
HSD, along with his family, recognizes the importance of education in Indonesia. Many scholarships were given dating back 25 years, even before the establishment of the family foundation. To date, YKHD and eventually YAD, have given a total of 1,522 scholarships. These high-achieving recipients come from underprivileged families. Concerning students seeking higher education, we prioritise those majoring in fields related to Archaeology, History, Javanese or Indonesian Literature, Anthropology, and other fields in the humanities.
Scholarship beneficiaries range from students in kindergarten, through those in elementary school, junior high school, high school, university students, and PhD candidates. Out of the entire group, university students pursuing their Bachelor’s degrees make-up the largest block with 30%. Higher education students can pursue their degrees in local or foreign universities. In October 2014, a YAD Alumni Association was formed as a way to unite the scholars, thus enabling them to communicate and network with each other to further continue various forms of support for the education of the people of Indonesia.
