The June edition of YAD News is back with a plethora of activities and important events, such as: the 109th Archaeology Day on June 14th, the anniversary of Mandala Majapahit (ManMa) Trowulan on June 12th, and the World Environment Day which coincides with Mr. Hashim Djojohadikusumo’s birthday on June 5th. This edition explored YAD’s activities in relation to these important dates, as well as other interesting activities in the field of environmental and cultural conservation, as well as education and social service as the four main pillars of YAD.
The Cultural Conservation team shared with us the success of a virtual seminar under the theme “The Tale of Majapahit in Five Islands in Indonesia”, featuring speakers from various academic backgrounds representing Sumatra, Java, Bali, Sulawesi, and Nusa Tenggara.
This edition also brought to us an interesting story about the latest activity of PSO-ARSARI in East Kalimantan in the form of “Donating Tree Seeds for Our Forests”, held to commemorate the World Environment Day. This program uniquely embraced students under schools managed by YKI-ARSARI to plant tree seeds donated by the families of YAD employees and the surrounding communities.
However, this month’s issue also reported the grave news about the death of Puti Maua Agam, a Sumatran tiger who had been rehabilitated by PR-HSD following her evacuation by West Sumatra BKSDA in January 2022. Puti’s death was thoroughly discussed in this edition, which clearly showed the hard work of the PR-HSD team in their effort to save her before her planned release, which was scheduled to be carried out this month. Losing Puti is another fire burning the spirit of Sumatran Tiger conservationists to push forward in their efforts.
