Yad News Vol 18-2022

November is the month of Majapahit, commemorating the coronation of Raden Wijaya as the first king of Majapahit on the 15th day of the month of Kartika in 1215 Caka, or the 12th of November in 1293 AD (Kidung Harsya Wijaya Demung VI Kidung 84-b and 85-b). This issue thus showcases various pieces related to the 729th anniversary of Majapahit (1293-2022), such as Majapahit Heritage Trail in Bali, specifically at Karangasem and Klungkung. There is also an article covering an exhibition on Creative Products based on Majapahit Values in Denpasar, which was opened virtually by the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia. Another interesting article is about talkshows organized by YAD and partners at Udayana University, Bali.

Majapahit aside, this month’s issue also raises an interesting topic from the environmental sector, for example the story of translocation of sun bears from PR-HSD ARSARI to their new home at Kalianda Sumatra Wildlife Center (SWC), South Lampung. In another story, there are events to commemorate World Tree Day which falls on November 21, celebrated through the Love for Trees Movement organized by AK-PSD ARSARI. In addition, PKR-ARSARI also shared their experience teaching in an Inspirational Class for SD Negeri 025 Teluk Binjai Dumai.

The inspirational figure this month is Dra. Djaliati Sri Nugrahani, MA, a lecturer in Archeology from the Faculty of Humanities, Gajah Mada University (UGM), and also the Head of UGM Museum. Fondly known as Bu Nia, she is a driving force in the Indonesian Integrated Archaeological Research (PATI) which was initiated and organized by YAD and several university partners, a project that is still going strong today.
